DESTINATION GARDEN
The destination garden will be created with the help of horticulturalists from the UEL Landscape Architecture Course. The horticulturalists will train local people to design , build and maintain the garden. Consequently the local people trained by the horticulturalists will be offered permanent jobs to run and maintain the garden. Also the former Central Buffet will be renamed the Horticultural Education Centre which will provide a base for horticulture training and workshops open to the general public and local schools.

Horticulture Education Centre- Former Central Buffet- A centre for learning

The Horticulture Education Centre will provide opportunities from the local people to access training in horticulture. The centre will offer the following qualifications for full time learners:
City and Guilds T Level in Ornamental and environmental horticulture and landscaping
This qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels. The format of a T level consists of 80% of time spent in taught content delivered from specialist tutors and practical sessions outside with the remaining 20% of the time through a work placement. The modules are diverse with there being key content delivered in plant and soil science, plant management, plant propagation and landscaping. All these skills aid the development of knowledge and technical skills needed in the horticultural and landscape sectors.

Horticulture BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
In this qualification there are six mandatory units which include: Principles of Plant Science, Principles of Soil Science, Business Management in the Land-based Sector, an Investigative Project in the Land-based Sector, Work Experience in the Land-based Industries and Undertaking Land-based Machinery Operations

Level 3 Qualifications can be funded through the National Skills fund given applicants do not have a Level 3 Qualification. This will help to make the course accessible to the wider community and will generate more opportunities for young people. This scheme is for those 24 years and over and must earn less than £24, 000.
The centre will offer the following Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) qualifications for part time time learners:

The above full time and part time qualifications will enable enable the Horticultural Education Centre to operate a full week and have sufficient income to sustain itself. The Centre will give opportunities for young people to pursue a career in horticulture thorough enrolment in BTEC level and T Level courses. There is space for a greenhouse in the back of the site of the education centre and there will also be space by the windows at the back of the buildings for plant growing space when plant science in taught as part of the courses. However the centre will also provide access for mature students through the RHS qualifications. As a result this will make the centre accessible. In the case that there is an increase in students more land will be allocated for additional gardens to run the courses which will be located behind the Horticultural Educational Centre and the Dock Managers Office Studio and Gallery.

In addition, there will be workshops in horticulture open to the public at weekends which charge a minimal fee to attendees. This will help make the Horticultural Education Centre a building that serves the community as well. Another benefit that the centre will have is the use of the paved front of the building which will be licensed to yoga and fitness instructors to run sessions. This will generate further income for the development.
